* rickard/binary_to_term_error/OTP-11931: Replace erlang:binary_to_term() Erlang wrappers Conflicts: erts/preloaded/ebin/erts_internal.beam
2014-06-05Replace erlang:binary_to_term() Erlang wrappersRickard Green
Replace the 'erlang:binary_to_term/1' and 'erlang:binary_to_term/2' Erlang wrappers taking care of failure after yield with management of this in the hidden yield BIF.
2014-04-30erts: Add erts_internal:map_to_tuple_keys/1Björn-Egil Dahlberg
* Used for introspection. * Will return the internal key tuple if applicable * Not documented - not for public use
2014-01-29erts: Add BIF erts_internal:cmp_term/2Björn-Egil Dahlberg
Compares terms where integer() < float().
2014-01-28erts,stdlib: Change map module name to mapsBjörn-Egil Dahlberg
Name conforms to EEP.
2014-01-28erts: Introduce more Maps BIFsBjörn-Egil Dahlberg
* map:remove/2 * map:keys/1 * map:values/1 * map:is_key/2 * map:update/3 - Equivalent to ':=' operator in #{ K := V } maps. * map:from_list/1 - map:from_list/1 takes any unsorted key/value list, [{K,V}], and produces a map. Duplicate keys are removed. The latest key is kept. * map:find/2 - Searches for a pair that *equals* input key. * map:merge/2 - Merge two maps to one map.
2014-01-28erts: Add the type-testing guard BIF is_map/1Björn-Egil Dahlberg
To add a type-testing guard BIF, the following steps are needed: * The BIF itself is added to bif.tab (note that it should be declared using "ubif", not "bif"), and its implementation to erl_bif_op.c. * erl_internal must be modified in 3 places: The type test must be recognized as guard BIF, as a type test, and it must be auto-imported. * There must be an instruction that implements the same type test as the BIF (it will be used in guards). beam_utils:bif_to_test/3 must be updated to recognize the new guard BIF.
2014-01-28erts: Add the size-testing guard BIF map_size/1Björn-Egil Dahlberg

2013-11-18Execution of system tasks in context of another processRickard Green
A process requesting a system task to be executed in the context of another process will be notified by a message when the task has executed. This message will be on the form: {RequestType, RequestId, Pid, Result}. A process requesting a system task to be executed can set priority on the system task. The requester typically set the same priority on the task as its own process priority, and by this avoiding priority inversion. A request for execution of a system task is made by calling the statically linked in NIF erts_internal:request_system_task(Pid, Prio, Request). This is an undocumented ERTS internal function that should remain so. It should *only* be called from BIF implementations. Currently defined system tasks are: * garbage_collect * check_process_code Further system tasks can and will be implemented in the future. The erlang:garbage_collect/[1,2] and erlang:check_process_code/[2,3] BIFs are now implemented using system tasks. Both the 'garbage_collect' and the 'check_process_code' operations perform or may perform garbage_collections. By doing these via the system task functionality all garbage collect operations in the system will be performed solely in the context of the process being garbage collected. This makes it possible to later implement functionality for disabling garbage collection of a process over context switches. Newly introduced BIFs: * erlang:garbage_collect/2 - The new second argument is an option list. Introduced option: * {async, RequestId} - making it possible for users to issue asynchronous garbage collect requests. * erlang:check_process_code/3 - The new third argument is an option list. Introduced options: * {async, RequestId} - making it possible for users to issue asynchronous check process code requests. * {allow_gc, boolean()} - making it possible to issue requests that aren't allowed to garbage collect (operation will abort if gc should be needed). These options have been introduced as a preparation for parallelization of check_process_code operations when the code_server is about to purge a module.

2013-11-09Add os:unsetenv/1Martin Hässler
New BIF os:unsetenv/1 which deletes an environment variable and returns 'true'. Does not change any old functionality. Calls the libc function unsetenv(3) on UNIX and SetEnvironmentVariableW(key, NULL) on Windows. The unicode support is the same as for os:getenv and os:putenv.
2013-08-09Add new options to Erlang re interface and mend dupnamesPatrik Nyblom
Add notempty_atstart, no_start_optimize, ucp and never_utf options from new PCRE version. Use the new notempty_atstart in global matching. Add inspect/2 function Correctly handle dupnames when capturing a name, as in Perl, get the leftmost matching occurence. Also added all_names, to get all the names in the pattern in alphabetical (name) order. To be able to use this in global matching, an inspect function that can dig out a namelist was added.

2013-02-11Teach prim_file:set_cwd() to avoid entering non-translatable directoriesBjörn Gustavsson
We have decided that we don't want to deal with the compilations of prim_file:get_cwd() returning a binary when the current directory name cannot be translated losslessly to a list (i.e. when the run-time system was started with +fnu and the current directory name contains bytes that are not part of a valid UTF-8 sequence). Therefore, if prim_file:set_cwd() is given a binary as the pathname, we will need to check the binary to make sure it can be translated to a list. We will introduce a new BIF, called prim_file:is_translatable/1, which will check both filename encoding mode, and if it is one of Unicode modes, the binary as well. We don't need to do anything special if prim_file:set_cwd() is passed a list.

2013-01-21Text representation of a float formatted using given options.Serge Aleynikov
This BIF solves a problem of float_to_list/1 that doesn't allow specifying the number of digits after the decimal point when formatting floats. float_to_list(Float, Options) -> string() Float = float() Options = [Option] Option = {decimals, Decimals::0..249} | {scientific, Decimals::0..249} | compact Returns a string which corresponds to the text representation of a `Float` formatted using given options. When decimals option is specified the returned value will contain at most `Decimals` number of digits past the decimal point. When `compact` option is provided the trailing zeros at the end of the list are truncated (this option is only meaningful together with the `decimals` option). When `scientific` option is provided, the float will be formatted using scientific notation with `Decimals` digits of precision. If `Options` is `[]` the function behaves like `float_to_list/1`. When using `decimals` option and the number doesn't fit in the static internal buffer of 256 bytes the function throws `badarg`.

2012-02-21Break apart erlang:load_module/2 into two separate BIFsBjörn Gustavsson
Introduce two new BIFs, erlang:prepare_loading/2 and erlang:finish_loading/1, and re-implement erlang:load_module/2 in Erlang code. We have two reasons for doing this: * To facilitate suspending a process if another process is already doing code loading. * In the future, we can implement parallel and atomic loading of several modules. Atomic loading works except for modules with on_load handlers. Because of that issue, erlang:finish_loading/2 will currently only accept a list with a single magic binary.

2011-11-13Optimize memory allocationRickard Green
A number of memory allocation optimizations have been implemented. Most optimizations reduce contention caused by synchronization between threads during allocation and deallocation of memory. Most notably: * Synchronization of memory management in scheduler specific allocator instances has been rewritten to use lock-free synchronization. * Synchronization of memory management in scheduler specific pre-allocators has been rewritten to use lock-free synchronization. * The 'mseg_alloc' memory segment allocator now use scheduler specific instances instead of one instance. Apart from reducing contention this also ensures that memory allocators always create memory segments on the local NUMA node on a NUMA system.

2011-08-25Add erlang:check_old_code/1Björn Gustavsson
Add erlang:check_old_code/1 to quickly check whether a module has old code. If there is no old code, there is no need to call erlang:check_process_code/2 for all processes, which will save some time if there are many processes.

* commit 'bg/nif_error': crypto: Add type specs for all documented functions crypto: Use erlang:nif_error/1 to squelch false Dialyzer warnings Add erlang:nif_error/1,2
2010-06-01Remove unsupported erlang:blocking_read_file/1Björn Gustavsson
This BIF was only used by the now broken SAE support.
2010-05-31Add erlang:nif_error/1,2Björn Gustavsson
A stub function that is supposed to be replaced by a NIF usually calls erlang:error/1 to cause an exception if the NIF library is not loaded. For example: foo() -> erlang:error(nif_not_loaded). The problem is that although erlang:error/1 will normally never be called, Dialyzer will think that any call to the function will fail and thus generate false warnings. Adding a spec for the function will not help because Dialyzer will not believe the spec. Add erlang:nif_error/1,2 that work exactly like erlang:error/1,2. Define the return types for both BIFs to be t_any(). erlang:nif_error is used like this: -spec foo() -> binary(). foo() -> erlang:nif_error(nif_not_loaded). (The -spec is optional but highly recommended, since Dialyzer otherwise has no chance to figure out the types.)
