Not setting ERL_CRASH_DUMP_SECONDS will now terminate beam
immediately on a crash without writing a crash dump file.
Setting ERL_CRASH_DUMP_SECONDS to 0 will also terminate beam
immediately on a crash without writing a crash dump file, i.e. same as not
setting ERL_CRASH_DUMP_SECONDS environment variable.
Setting ERL_CRASH_DUMP_SECONDS to a negative value will let the beam wait
indefinitely on the crash dump file being written.
Setting ERL_CRASH_DUMP_SECONDS to a positive value will let the beam wait
that many seconds on the crash dump file being written.
A positive value will set both an alarm in beam AND a heart timeout for restart
if heart is running.
This is due to the change of 'heart' behavior when 'heart' is
listening for a crash.
|
|
When a crash dump is about to be written and we have
heartbeat enabled on a system. We need time to write it
before heart explicitly kills the beam.

Sometime when executing an tty io operation just before
the emulator terminated, the io message would get lost.
This commit makes sure that there is no io in the fd driver
before shutting down.

* jkl/erlsrv-graceful-shutdown/OTP-10228:
erlsrv: gracefully stop emulator on Windows shutdown
|
|
Putenv and getenv needs to convert to the proper environment
strings in Unicode depending on platform and user settings for filename
encoding. Also erlexec needs to pass environment strings in an appropriate
way for kernel to pick up. All environment strings on the command
line, as well as home directory, is now passed in UTF8 on windows
and in whatever encoding you have on Unix, kernel tries to convert all
parameters and environments from UTF8 before making strings.
|
|
Windows will send the SERVICE_CONTROL_SHUTDOWN event to the service control
handler when shutting down the system. Instead of ignoring the event, erlsrv
will now invoke the stop action. Likewise, the Erlang emulator (and it's port
drivers) must not quit upon reception of the CTRL_SHUTDOWN_EVENT event in the
console control handler.

Add probes to the virtual machine, except (mostly) the efile_drv.c
driver and other file I/O-related source files.
|
|
I/O events could potentially be delayed for ever when enabling
kernel-poll on a non-SMP runtime system executing on Solaris. When
also combined with async-threads the runtime system hung before
completing the boot phase. This bug was introduced in
erts-5.9/OTP-R15B.

Almost all uses of the 'long' datatype is removed from VM and tests
Emulator test now runs w/o drivers crashing
Nasty abs bug fixed in VM as well as type errors in allocator debug functions
Still one allocator test that fails, domain knowledge is needed to fix that.
Fix type inconsistency in beam_load causing crashes

Still does not run, just compiles.

Windows native critical sections are now used internally in the
runtime system as mutex implementation. This since they perform
better under extreme contention than our own implementation.
|
|
Queues used for communication between async threads and scheduler threads
have been replaced with lock-free queues.
Drivers using the driver_async functionality are not automatically locked
to the system anymore, and can be unloaded as any dynamically linked in
driver.
Scheduling of ready async jobs is now also interleaved in between other
jobs. Previously all ready async jobs was performed at once.
|
|
The ERTS internal system block functionality has been replaced by
new functionality for blocking the system. The old system block
functionality had contention issues and complexity issues. The
new functionality piggy-backs on thread progress tracking functionality
needed by newly introduced lock-free synchronization in the runtime
system. When the functionality for blocking the system isn't used
there is more or less no overhead at all. This since the functionality
for tracking thread progress is there and needed anyway.
|
|
A number of memory allocation optimizations have been implemented. Most
optimizations reduce contention caused by synchronization between
threads during allocation and deallocation of memory. Most notably:
* Synchronization of memory management in scheduler specific allocator
instances has been rewritten to use lock-free synchronization.
* Synchronization of memory management in scheduler specific
pre-allocators has been rewritten to use lock-free synchronization.
* The 'mseg_alloc' memory segment allocator now use scheduler specific
instances instead of one instance. Apart from reducing contention
this also ensures that memory allocators always create memory
segments on the local NUMA node on a NUMA system.
