Add system_info(atom_limit) to provide a way to retrieve the maximum
number of atoms allowed. Add tests and documentation for it too.
Also split system_info_SUITE:start_node/2 to start_node_ets/2 and
start_node_atm/2 to avoid code duplication.

Those clause are obsolete and never used by common_test.

The macro ?t is deprecated. Replace its use with 'test_server'.

As a first step to removing the test_server application as
as its own separate application, change the inclusion of
test_server.hrl to an inclusion of ct.hrl and remove the
inclusion of test_server_line.hrl.

Add erlang:system_info(tolerant_timeofday), an API to check whether
compensation for sudden changes of system time is enabled or not.

Add system_info(ets_limit) to provide a way to retrieve the runtime's
maximum number of ETS tables. Add tests and documentation for it too.
Also repair the alphabetical order of system_info/1 argument descriptions
in the documentation and in the erlang.erl clauses. Add new preloaded
erlang.erl due to that change. Also ensure all system_info/1 clauses are
represented in the erlang.xml source documentation -- a couple had been
inadvertently dropped in previous commits when other clauses were added.

A number of memory allocation optimizations have been implemented. Most
optimizations reduce contention caused by synchronization between
threads during allocation and deallocation of memory. Most notably:
* Synchronization of memory management in scheduler specific allocator
instances has been rewritten to use lock-free synchronization.
* Synchronization of memory management in scheduler specific
pre-allocators has been rewritten to use lock-free synchronization.
* The 'mseg_alloc' memory segment allocator now use scheduler specific
instances instead of one instance. Apart from reducing contention
this also ensures that memory allocators always create memory
segments on the local NUMA node on a NUMA system.

There is a bug in system_info BIF causing a crash if
erts_get_cpu_topology_term fails. The fix comes with a non-regression
test.
|
|
The following test suites now work:
send_term_SUITE
trace_nif_SUITE
binary_SUITE
match_spec_SUITE
node_container_SUITE
beam_literals_SUITE
Also add a testcases for system_info({wordsize,internal|external}).

Add documentation for binary heap size settings.
Add tracing capabilities for binary virtual heap
Add min heap size start options to beam and erl
Improve binary garbage collection
OTP-8370 The default settings for garbage collection of binaries has been
adjusted to be less aggressive than in R13B03. It is now also
possible configure the settings for binary GC. See the
documentation for spawn_opt/2-5, erlang:system_info/1,
erlang:system_flag/2, process_flag/2-3, erlang:trace/3, and the
documenation for erl for the new command line options +hms and
+hmbs.

The garbage collector in r13b03 is too aggressive in some cases. This
commit raises the level of default initial allowed binary garbage
(virtual heap for binaries) before collecting from 233 words to
46368 words (181 kB on 32-bit).
A new option, min_bin_vheap_size, has been added to spawn_opt,
system_flag and process_flag can be used to change the default values.
The option can also be used with system_info and process_info to
inspect the values.
For symmetry the option min_heap_size has been added to the above
functions where it was previously missing.
Add testcases for min_bin_vheap_size and min_heap_size for
functions process_flag/2, process_info/2, system_info/2 and
spawn_opt/2.
