The erlang:open_port spawn and spawn_executable directives can include
an {env, Env} directive to set up environment variables for the
spawned process. Variables can be unset with {"NameOfVariable",false}.
A bug in ert/emulator/sys/unix/sys.c could cause unset variables
to not be unset. This would typically happen if there where more
variables to be unset than there where already set variables in the
destination evironment.
Fix this problem for unix and add a new regression test for it to
the port test suite. Windows does not seem to have the same problem.

Teach compiler to override autoimport with import
First prototype for local functions overriding autoimported
OTP-8579 Local functions should override auto-imported
Local and imported functions now override the autoimported
BIFs when the names clash. The pre R14 behaviour was that
autoimported BIFs would override local functions. To avoid
that old programs change behaviour, the following will
generate an error:
Doing a call without explicit module name to a local function
having a name clashing with the name of an autoimported BIF
that was present (and autoimported) before OTP R14A
Explicitly importing a function having a name clashing with
the name of an autoimported BIF that was present (and
autoimported) before OTP R14A Using any form of the old
compiler directive nowarn_bif_clash
If the BIF was added or autoimported in OTP R14A or later,
overriding it with an import or a local function will only
result in a warning,
To resolve clashes, you can either use the explicit module
name erlang to call the BIF, or you can remove the autoimport
of that specific BIF by using the new compiler directive
-compile({no_auto_import,[F/A]})., which makes all calls to
the local or imported function without explicit module name
pass without warnings or errors.
The change makes it possible to add autoimported BIFs without
breaking or silently changing old code in the future. However
some current code ingeniously utilizing the old behaviour or
the nowarn_bif_clash compiler directive, might need changing
to be accepted by the compiler.

* se/spawn_drv_win_deadlock:
Fix deadlock in spawn driver on windows
OTP-8641 se/spawn_drv_win_deadlock
Windows: Closing port of program that stalled without reading all data
could deadlock scheduler thread.
|
|
A misbehaving port program that does not read all data written to the port
may deadlock the scheduler thread when it calls port_close. The chosen solution
was to use the new function CancelIoEx if it exist (Vista) otherwise let the
spawn driver wait for a short while (10ms) and then to spawn a thread that will
wait for the port program to exit.

Add new NIF API functions
- enif_make_atom_len
- enif_make_existing_atom_len
- enif_make_string_len
These are basically the same as enif_make_atom,
enif_make_existing_atom and enif_make_string except that the
new functions require a length parameter instead of a
null-terminated C-string.

While binary_to_term/2 was added in R13B04, it wasn't auto-imported. This
conformed to longstanding policy of not changing auto-imports between major
versions. This patch contains changes to auto-import binary_to_term/2 to
coincide with the release of R14.

The erlang:open_port spawn and spawn_executable directives can include
an {env, Env} directive to set up environment variables for the
spawned process. A bug in ert/emulator/sys/unix/sys.c prevented
applications from using {env, Env} to set an environment variable
whose value ended with a '=' (equal sign) character; the code mistook
the trailing equal sign as an indication that an environment variable
was to be cleared from the environment of the spawned process.
For example, passing an {env, Env} of
{env, [{"foo", "bar="}]}
would result in the code in sys.c seeing a string of the form
"foo=bar="
The code would see the final '=' character and assume the directive
wanted to clear a variable named "foo=bar" from the environment of the
spawned process, rather than seeing it as a directive to set the
environment variable "foo" to the value "bar=".
Fix this problem and add a new regression test for it to the port test
suite.

* se/decode_packet:
Fix erlang:decode_packet(httph_bin,..) to not return faulty header strings
OTP-8548 se/decode_packet
erlang:decode_packet(httph_bin,..) could return corrupt header strings or
even crash the VM. This has been fixed. It only happened on 32-bit VM if
the header name was unknown and between 16 and 20 characters long. Sockets
with simular packet option did not suffer from this bug.
|
|
Unrecognized Http header names was sometimes returned as corrupt
sub-binaries pointing to a stack allocated buffer. This only happened
on 32-bit VM if the header name was between 16 and 20 characters
long. It could in some cases lead to segmentation fault.
The solution was to avoid creating sub-binary if the returned string
was not part of the original binary.

The testcase core dunmped. Also made sure the key could actually store

The following test suites now work:
send_term_SUITE
trace_nif_SUITE
binary_SUITE
match_spec_SUITE
node_container_SUITE
beam_literals_SUITE
Also add a testcases for system_info({wordsize,internal|external}).
|
|
Some test suites need to differentiate between 32-bit terms
and 32-bit pointers.
While at it, remove some more warnings in process.c for SMP and debug.
|
|
Driver threads, such as async threads, using <seealso
marker="erl_driver#ErlDrvPDL">port data locks</seealso> peeked at the port
status field without proper locking when looking up the driver queue.
|
|
A call to the BIF unregister(RegName) when a port had the name RegName
registered in the runtime system without SMP support caused a runtime
system crash. (Thanks to Per Hedeland for the bugfix and test case.)
|
|
|
|
erlang:system_flag(multi_scheduling, block | unblock) could
deadlock the runtime system.
|
|
In an SMP emulator, two of the test cases in statistics_SUITE
frequently fail.
Remove the runtime_zero_update/1 test case, because you can't
really expect an SMP emulator not to spend any CPU time at
all even if no Erlang process is active.
Adjust the runtime_update/1 test case to not fail if the
measured times are note close enough. It will still fail
if statistics(runtime) would fail or return the wrong type.

* egil/binary-gc:
Add documentation for binary heap size settings.
Add tracing capabilities for binary virtual heap
Add min heap size start options to beam and erl
Improve binary garbage collection
OTP-8370 The default settings for garbage collection of binaries has been
adjusted to be less aggressive than in R13B03. It is now also
possible configure the settings for binary GC. See the
documentation for spawn_opt/2-5, erlang:system_info/1,
erlang:system_flag/2, process_flag/2-3, erlang:trace/3, and the
documenation for erl for the new command line options +hms and
+hmbs.
|
|
The garbage collector in r13b03 is too aggressive in some cases. This
commit raises the level of default initial allowed binary garbage
(virtual heap for binaries) before collecting from 233 words to
46368 words (181 kB on 32-bit).
A new option, min_bin_vheap_size, has been added to spawn_opt,
system_flag and process_flag can be used to change the default values.
The option can also be used with system_info and process_info to
inspect the values.
For symmetry the option min_heap_size has been added to the above
functions where it was previously missing.
Add testcases for min_bin_vheap_size and min_heap_size for
functions process_flag/2, process_info/2, system_info/2 and
spawn_opt/2.
