2018-01-26Eliminate get_list/3 internally in the compilerBjörn Gustavsson
Instructions that produce more than one result complicate optimizations. get_list/3 is one of two instructions that produce multiple results (get_map_elements/3 is the other). Introduce the get_hd/2 and get_tl/2 instructions that return the head and tail of a cons cell, respectively, and use it internally in all optimization passes. For efficiency, we still want to use get_list/3 if both head and tail are used, so we will translate matching pairs of get_hd and get_tl back to get_list instructions.
2017-11-10Recognize 'deterministic' when given in a -compile() attributeBjörn Gustavsson
The compiler option 'deterministic' was only recognized when given as an option to the compiler, not when it was specified in a -compile() attribute in the source file. https://bugs.erlang.org/browse/ERL-498
2017-05-10compile_SUITE: Test the r16, r17, r18, r19 optionsBjörn Gustavsson
Also test other options that turns off certain optimizations or instruction sets.
2017-01-30Add new AtU8 beam chunkJosé Valim
The new chunk stores atoms encoded in UTF-8. beam_lib has also been modified to handle the new 'utf8_atoms' attribute while the 'atoms' attribute may be a missing chunk from now on. The binary_to_atom/2 BIF can now encode any utf8 binary with up to 255 characters. The list_to_atom/1 BIF can now accept codepoints higher than 255 with up to 255 characters (thanks to Björn Gustavsson).
2016-04-27Remove toothless test compile_SUITE:missing_testheap/1Björn Gustavsson
missing_testheap/1 is no longer relevant for the following reasons: 1) Because of the literal pool introduced in R12, no test_heap instructions are needed in the guards. 2) beam_validator would abort the compilation if any needed test_heap instructions were missing.

2016-02-05Move record compilation errors to erl_lint_SUITEBjörn Gustavsson
The two bad record usage test cases in compile_SUITE do not belong there, as the errors are detected in erl_lint. Move the test to the erl_lint_SUITE.

2015-01-16compile_SUITE: Test the 'dialyzer' optionBjörn Gustavsson
Cover more code in v3_core.

2013-05-20beam_lib, compile: Replace use of deprecated crypto functionsBjörn Gustavsson
Since both the STDLIB and compiler applications turn warnings into errors, we must stop using the old deprecated crypto functions. While we are at it, generalize the format of the key tuple returned by beam_lib:make_crypto_key/2 to facilitate introducing new crypto methods in the future. Change the format to: {Type,Key,IV,BlockSize} where Type, Key, and IV are the first three arguments for either crypto:block_encrypt4/ or crypto:block_decrypt/4, and BlockSize is the block size for the crypto algorithm (it is needed to properly pad the plaintext blocks before encryption).
2012-07-10Fix the erlc -MP flagRichard Carlsson
Because of a copy-and-paste error in erlc.c, the -MP flag had the same effect as -MG. As a workaround, you had to pass +makedep_phony to enable the MP option. This patch makes -MP work as intended.
2012-01-11compile_SUITE: Add test of 'sys_pre_attributes'Björn Gustavsson
2011-02-18Merge branch 'jp/dependencies_makefile' into devBjörn Gustavsson

2011-02-18Add dependencies Makefile generation to erlc(1) and compile(3)Jean-Sébastien Pédron
This is useful when a project is built with Makefiles and erlc(1) instead of EMakefiles. Tracking dependencies by hand is error-prone and it becomes painful when using external application headers like EUnit's one. A dependencies Makefile will look like this: module.beam: module.erl \ /usr/local/lib/erlang/lib/eunit-2.1.4/include/eunit.hrl \ header.hrl When included in the main Makefile, 'module' will be recompiled only when needed. GCC offers the same feature and new erlc(1) options are compatible with it. More informations at: http://wiki.github.com/dumbbell/otp/dependencies-makefile
